ABOUT ME
My name is Egor Kaneev. I am a Bangkok-based visual artist specialising in photography and cinematography.
With over 9 years of professional experience, I have worked with major brands such as GQ, Pirelli, Yandex, Nanlite, and Huawei.
My work focuses on portraiture, fashion, and fine art, with a strong emphasis on composition, light, and the relationship between people and space.
I also work as a street and reportage photographer, capturing everyday moments with a cinematic and expressive approach.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Photography as a medium I work with captivates me with a possibility to seize instantly the sudden moment of resonance that arises between emotional substance and a form of the subject I capture. The process of shooting has always been like a treasure hunt: these found treasures form my collection, the priceless harvest of my artistic practice. I find unpredictability astonishing. The outcome of the search is never static and is subject to metamorphosis—there are no rigid boundaries, defined color schemes or genre limitations. I simply allow my inner world and emotions to guide me.
What the subject conveys matters more than the subject itself. I am equally interested in the form and texture of living beings and inanimate objects, in portraits as much as in landscape elements. They act as an intermediary between an inner emotional response, that is hard to express, and the final image that emerges through careful observation and iterative experimentation. I have a particular affinity for working with light; it is a dynamic instrument, capable of taking on any shape and transforming the perception of any object. Sometimes light itself is the key to a perfect, at times otherworldly, image.
"Since I bought my first camera in 2016, my life has been divided into 'before' and 'after.' I found my flow, my way of communicating with the world around me. It’s a language understood in every country, and by learning to speak it, I can now express what I could never say in any other language."
